Food Storage (8 months)
Goal: Acquire 1 year’s worth of long-term food storage and 3 months' worth of everyday foods

Month 1, April 2012Read through the preparedness packet: Cover Letter, Synopsis, One for the Money, All is Safely Gathered In: Family Home Storage, and All is Safely Gathered In: Family FinancesRead the “LDS Essentials of Home Production and Storage” under the Preparedness Links on the blogPrayerfully determine what the Lord would have you do. Begin saving $11 per month per person for your 1-year food storage.
Month 2, May 2012:  Decide what you will purchase from the cannery in Month 4 (July).  Make appropriate preparations for that trip by contacting the cannery.  Read gardening and sprouting materials provided.  Save $11 per person for food storage. 
Month3, June 2012:  To become familiar with finding food storage information search out 5 food storage recipes and keep them with the preparedness packet handed out in Month 1.  Try at least one recipe.  Save $11 per person for food storage. Begin preparing for your 3-month storage by keeping track of everything you eat. 
Month 4, July 2012:  Visit the cannery and pick up or can 2 months' worth of food storage.  Put your $11 per person for food storage toward this trip.  Find creative spaces to stash your food storage.  For 3-month storage, continue to keep track of everything you eat.
Month 5, August 2012:  Read about food storage nutrition from the website.  Save $11 per person for food storage.  For 3-month storage, continue to keep track of everything you eat.
Month 6, September 2012:  Acquire and store 1 week of water (1 gal per person per day).  Prepare to visit the cannery again in two months (November).  Save $11 per person for food storage.  
Month 7, October 2012:   Acquire and store 1 week of water (1 gal per person per day).  Save $11 per person for food storage.  To begin your 3-month storage use your collected data of food consumed over the last 3 months to find your average weekly consumption, and then buy 1 week of these everyday foods.
Month 8, November 2012:  Visit the cannery and pick up 2 months' worth of food storage; use your $11 per person toward this trip.  For 3-month storage buy 1 week of everyday foods.

Emergency Preparedness (8 months)
Goal: Make complete 72-hour kits; Evacuation and Communication plans
Month 1, December 2012:  Using a basic emergency kit list, find as many things from around the house as you can, put it all in a box and write down what you need to complete the list (or buy ready-made kits).  Save $11 per person for food storage.  For 3-month storage buy 1 week of everyday foods.
Month 2, January 2013:  Use list from Month 1 to purchase supplies to complete the basic kit list.  Learn a water purification technique.  Save $11 per person for food storage. Prepare to visit the cannery again in two months (March).  For 3-month storage buy 1 week of everyday foods.
Month 3, February 2013:  Purchase or make from the list provided a first aid kit to add to your emergency kit. Save $11 per person for food storage.  For 3-month storage buy 1 week of everyday foods.
Month 4, March 2013:  Round out the kit with any desired extras: tools, money, documents, etc.  Visit the cannery and pick up 2 months' worth of food storage.  Save $11 per person for food storage (use for the trip this month).  For 3-month storage buy 1 week of everyday foods.
Month 5, April 2013:  Acquire/re-purpose/make a carrying bag for your emergency kit.  Finish Month 4 (March) if necessary.  Save $11 per person for food storage.  For 3-month storage buy 1 week of everyday foods.
Month 6, May 2013:  Create and practice a fire evacuation plan for your home.  Know how to shut off your gas and water.  Learn how to shelter in place.  Prepare to visit the cannery again in two months (July).  Save $11 per person for food storage.  For 3-month storage buy 1 week of everyday foods.
Month 7, June 2013:  Create a family emergency plan and put copies of it in each family member's wallet and emergency kit.  Prepare foods and medicines in case of sickness.  Save $11 per person for food storage.  For 3-month storage buy 1 week of everyday foods.
Month 8, July 2013:  Prepare car kit. Visit the cannery and pick up 2 months' worth of food storage.  Save $11 per person for food storage (use for the trip this month).  For 3-month storage buy 1 week of everyday foods.


Financial Preparedness (8 months)
Goal: Make a concrete plan to live within your means, get out of debt and build savings
Month 1, August 2013:   Read the Introduction in The Family Finance Workshop booklet and complete Steps 1 and 2 - calculate your spendable income and your average expenditures.  Save $11 per person for food storage.  For 3-month storage buy 1 week of everyday foods.
Month 2, September 2013:  Complete Step 3 in The Family Finance Workshop - balance your income and expenditures.  Prepare to visit the cannery again in two months (November).  Save $11 per person for food storage.  For 3-month storage buy 1 week of everyday foods.
Month 3, October 2013:  Complete Steps 4 and 5 in The Family Finance Workshop - record expenditures and refine your budget.  Save $11 per person for food storage.
Month 4, November 2013:  Complete Steps 8 through 11 in The Family Finance Workshop - make a plan to eliminate debt.  Read Appendix E.  Save $11 per person for food storage.
Month 5, December 2013:  Complete Steps 6 and 7 in The Family Finance Workshop - incorporate savings into your budget.  Save $11 per person for food storage (use for the trip this month).  Visit the cannery and pick up 2 months of food per person for food storage.
Month 6, January 2014:  Complete Step 12 in The Family Finance Workshop - create your complete financial plan.  Save $11 per person for food storage.  Prepare to visit the cannery again in two months (March). 
Month 7, February 2014:  Create legal documents: Durable Power of Attorney, Health Care Proxy, Simple Will, and Declaration of Homestead.  Put copies of these documents in your emergency kit. Save $11 per person for food storage.
Month 8, March 2014:  Two-Year Wrap Up!  Go through and update emergency kits (expired food, new batteries, etc.) Visit the cannery and pick up 2 months per person for food storage.  Put your $11 per person for food storage toward this cannery trip.  Continue saving $11 per person per month and reallocate it toward some of your financial or savings goals!
